VHS to CD/DVDIntroductionAlways an interesting subject, sounds easy, but not always. Typically you will want to move them to the DVD format with some menus etc. Once you have the disc image, this will allow you to make multiple copies to share with family members. By the way, whole process can be pretty PC intensive and can use up a lot of hard disc space, but the effort and results can be very rewarding. We will delve into this more deeply at a later date and report on some work that some collegues are doing on this subject. But for now here are some links to resources that discuss this subject. SeniorNet UK points out that the copying of any recorded Television or Radio broadcast programme is probably a breach of copyright. You should check with the copyright holder before making copies of any programme. Please send us any feedback via the Membership posting page or via the SeniorNet UK Forum. |

This magazine article discusses the process in some detail, but in a fairly clear way, it also stresses the need for a reasonably powerful PC to carryout the various task that are needed. |

Another article offering additional advice and pointing out the need for hard disc space - 'lots of' - and indicating the time taken by the PC in processing. Worth a read. |

As well as converting VHS tapes, you maybe looking to replace your DVD player and possibly record some Digital TV programs. New 'combi' products are now appearing in shops that allow you to do all the above and convert VHS tapes direct to DVDs. Here is a review of one such device and some links to others. These devices are not inexpensive, typically £320 to £550 depending on make and feature set included. |
